Named in honour of the feast day of San Lorenzo, after a famous victory over the French, the monastery was built as a Royal mausoleum by Phillip II for his father, Charles I of Spain who as Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire was one of the most feared and powerful monarchs in European history.
The town of San Lorenzo and the grand but austere monastery are the setting for a team treasure hunt that will take in 17th century taverns, hidden gardens, royal tombs, libraries where the knowledge of the ages is awaiting your discovery.
